Laurel A. McKone, 90 of Lecanto, passed away on November 21, 2017 at the Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast Hospice House in Lecanto. Mr. McKone was born in New Lothrop, Michigan on February 10, 1927 to the late Alfred and Vernie (Alderman) McKone. He came to Citrus County in 1987 from Flint, Michigan. He was a Korean Army Veteran and retired as a truck driver after 35 years with Association Truck Lines. He was Protestant by faith, a member of the Tampa Bay Soaring Society, and the Amature Radio Club of Citrus County. Mr. McKone is survived by several nieces and nephews including Judy Saupe of Lake Michigan, MI and many local friends including Maryann Hagenbrock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn B. McKone on February 5, 2006 and his 4 brothers: Bernard, Melvin, Clifford and Merlin. Following cremation, his urn will be buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, MI. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory of Inverness.
Laurel A. “Mac” McKone, age 90, Inverness, Florida. He was born in New Lothrop, Michigan on February 12, 1927, son of Alfred and Verna (Alderman) McKone. He graduated from New Lothrop High School. He joined the army in 1948 and was stationed in Germany, as part of the occupation force. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. While in Germany, he received a good conduct medal. He was a man of many talents. He built his own airplane and flew it to several air shows. He was a pilot, oil painter, did stained glass, needlepoint, built furniture and was an amateur photographer. He was a ham radio operator, and loved to work in his yard. He was preceded in death by wives, Delphia Maynard McKone, and Kathryn Anna Brown, his parents and siblings and their spouses. He is survived by his dear friend, several stepchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and he has been buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Note: Laurel was also married to Theresia Bauer of Germany (December 27, 1927 to February 17, 2017). She is buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, MI.
